VOICE
Academic Voice
Academic voice is clear, controlled and evidence-based. It can still sound like you; it simply avoids vagueness, unsupported certainty and unnecessary complexity.
Prefer precision
Use specific nouns, accurate verbs and clear claims. Say exactly what changed, caused, suggests or demonstrates something.
Avoid empty complexity
Long words and long sentences do not automatically make writing academic. Clarity is a strength.
Use confidence carefully
Distinguish what the evidence proves from what it suggests. Academic writing often uses measured language because evidence has limits.
Self-check
Can you defend every major claim with reasoning or evidence? Does the writing sound purposeful rather than inflated?
