THINKING
Critical Thinking
Critical thinking means moving beyond reporting information. Ask what the evidence means, what assumptions are present and what conclusions are justified.
Ask better questions
Why? How? According to whom? What evidence supports this? What alternative explanation could exist?
Analyse evidence
Do not stop at “this shows”. Explain exactly what the evidence shows and how it supports your point.
Consider alternatives
A strong argument becomes more credible when it recognises reasonable objections or competing explanations.
Self-check
Could an informed reader disagree with your conclusion? Have you shown why your interpretation is still persuasive?
